The utilization of active power filters in suppressing harmonics generated
by nonlinear loads in at distribution power systems will considerably be ge
neralized in the near future. With regard to the circuit topology, there ar
e two basic kinds of active filter, voltage source and current source. This
paper presents a comparison of these topologies from different points of v
iew such as power circuit design, semiconductor constraints, filtering qual
ity, robustness, adaptability and load transient behaviour.
