The study of a turbulent boundary layer submitted to injection through a po
rous plate is investigated. Using a classical model of turbulence for the m
ain flow, the physical phenomena linked to the blowing are modeled consider
ing the porous plate as a discrete succession of pores and solid elements.
The main flow can have a temperature different from that of the injected fl
uid and both dynamic and thermal aspects have been considered. The results
have been compared with results from the literature and with experimental m
easurements, showing a good agreement. An important decrease in the frictio
n factor with the injection rate has been observed. Furthermore, the heat t
ransfer coefficient decrease is very significant. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science
