Polymers are being increasingly used for modification of bitumen to enhance
the properties of bituminous mixes. This paper reports the procedure for m
odification of 80/100 penetration-grade bitumen using ethylene vinyl acetat
e copolymer. Some of the basic physical properties of the bitumen and the m
odified binder are presented. The mechanical properties of the mixes contai
ning such binder have been studied and compared with neat bitumen. It was f
ound that 5% EVA concentration in modified binder by weight is adequate in
terms of the enhanced properties studied.
