This paper describes an experimental method for the estimation of the scree
n coefficient and the mat resistance. Design of experimental setup and rest
methods are explained in detail. Three distinct regions of pressure drop t
hrough the mat are defined as a function of basis basis weight and the char
acteristics of each region are studied. For low basis weight mats, the vali
dity of Darcy's law is questioned. Guidelines for excluding screen effect a
re investigated. Also, formation analyses of paper samples made from the cu
rrent experiment are presented in comparison with handmade and machine-made
sheets.
