Based on the experimental data reported in this work and available in the l
iterature, the reactions of HO2. radicals are considered that are responsib
le for a number of unknown or poorly studied specific features of chain com
bustion, including the absence of the second ignition limit in some combust
ible gaseous mixtures, heterogeneous chain propagation and unusual kinetic
regularities of combustion processes caused by heterogeneous chain propagat
ion, the third ignition limit, which was so far considered a non-chain phen
omenon, and its hysteresis. The experimental data are discussed that point
to the importance of the reactions of intermediate species between each oth
er.
