Persistent photoconductivity is studied in ZnSe/(Zn,Cd,Mn)Se two-dimensiona
l electron-gas structures as a function of Mn concentration. Measurements o
f spectral photoconductivity, photoinduced transient spectroscopy, and deep
-level transient Fourier spectroscopy show the presence of a deep trap loca
ted 2.1 eV below the conduction band at near room temperature. The buildup
of persistent photoconductivity and its decay kinetics are formulated in ac
cordance with the large lattice relaxation model. Implications of the prese
nce of Mn in the two-dimensional electron gas are discussed. [S0163-1829(99
