Experimental evidence for dynamical decay of finite nuclear matter

Ternary fission in the reaction C-12 + Th-232 at E-lab = 22A MeV reveals ev idence for dynamical decay. The relative emission probability of intermedia te-mass fragments (IMF: 3 less than or equal to Z less than or equal to 20) as a function of the initial excitation of the composite system is examine d. While IMFs emitted prescission exhibit behavior consistent with statisti cal emission, near-scission IMFs, characterized by unique angular and energ y distributions, clearly exhibit a behavior consistent with dynamical decay .
