Sludge dewatering process optimization cost reduction at an integrated pulp and paper mill

Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.(ACI) operates a sludge dewatering facility at the ir pulp and paper mill in Kenora, Ontario. This facility processes a combin ation of deink, primary and secondary sludges. Since August of 1995 chemica l cost reductions of over 65% have been achieved by focusing on areas such as blend ratios and consistencies, equipment modifications, and optimizatio n of the chemical addition points. Looking to the future, further improveme nts are targeted in a number of other areas.
