Abstract
In Mexico, in spite of the important extension of maternal and infant healt h institution in rural areas, many women do not have access to antenatal ca re in the health system during their pregnancies. Through the identificatio n of the kind of antenatal care (doctors and/or traditional midwives) and t he measure of its intensity, the paper shows that the health system integra tion is questioned at each pregnancy and but especially at the first. The r esults of a demographic survey done in three rural villages in Morelos stat e (Mexico) show that when the biomedical follow-up occurs at the first preg nancy, it is rarely questioned for the next ones. In the others cases, the delivery circumstances become critical to confirm. the health system integr ation.
