Abstract
Benzenesulfonyl radical can be generated from sodium benzenesulfinate in aq ueous acetic acid or formic acid. A benzenesulfonyl radical induced radical reaction of omega-allylsulfonylalkyl substituted aromatic and heteroaromat ic derivatives is described. Alkyl radicals can be generated efficiently fr om allylsulfones. This sulfonyl radical induced reaction provides a synthet ically useful method for the synthesis of polycyclic aromatic and heteroaro matic derivatives. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd.
