Abstract
Trichophyton equinum, a zoophilic dermatophyte, is known as the main cause of equine ringworm worldwide; however, infections of this etiology have not been reported from Austria. In the present case T. equinum was identified as a cause of nodular skin lesions in a 16-year-old Haflinger crossbred gel ding from Lower Austria. Histologic examination of the lesions revealed typ ical pseudomycetomas, a phenomenon which was not observed in association wi th T. equinum up to date.
