Blood pressure (BP) reduction was compared between patients receiving angio
tensin-converting enzyme inhibitors alone and patients receiving these medi
cations plus statins after 3 months of dietary intervention. Although BP wa
s similarly reduced at week 4, the statin-treated group had a greater reduc
tion in BP and total cholesterol levels at week 16, suggesting a synergisti
c effect between cholesterol lowering with statins and angiotensin-converti
ng enzyme inhibitor treatment for hypertensive patients.
