The aim of this work is to study the mechanism of the reaction of hydr
oxyl radicals with simple aliphatic acids (acetic, glycolic, glyoxylic
and oxalic acids; see Table 1) in aqueous solution. The decomposition
of organic acids by hydroxyl radicals has been studied using the phot
olysis of hydrogen peroxide and the ozone/hydrogen peroxide system. (C
