Abstract
The peptide from peptones responsible for enhanced pigment production by St reptococcus algalactiae in culture media has been isolated from a peptic di gest of human albumin and has been identified as ILe-Ala-Arg-His-Pro-Tyr-Ph e. The related heptapeptide lacking the N-terminal lie also had pigment-enh ancing activity. A sequence similarity search showed that these sequences a re present only in mammal albumins.
