In is well known that theoretical models of internal wave action on th
e ocean surface the internal wave fields including the field of veloci
ty in subsurface layer, are assumed to be independent of the sea surfa
ce properties such as the degree if surface covered by surfactant film
s. This assumption is also used in modeling internal wave actions on t
he sea surface in hydrophysical tanks and basins. The object of the pa
per is to verify this assumption. The assumption is shown to be not va
lid for many basins, and scaling effects are important there. This all
ows us to formulate the requirements to modeling of interactions of in
ternal and surface waves with the aim to determine the effectiveness o
f remote sensing methods.
