Abstract
A rate equation model for gain-clamped erbium-doped fibre amplifiers (GC-ED FAs) is presented and verified experimentally. The characteristics of a GC- EDFA obtained using the proposed model are in good agreement with those of the experiment. The model can be useful in evaluating the performance of ca scaded GC-EDFAs in multiwavelengih networks.
