Data on the electrophoretic patterns of 22 enzyme systems were used to inve
stigate the relationships among six species of two scorpaeniform teleost fa
milies, Scorpaenidae and Triglidae. The level of genetic differentiation am
ong three species of the genus Scorpaena was similar to, or higher than, th
e value determined among three species of Triglidae of different genera. Th
e results stress the need for a taxonomical re-evaluation of these teleosts
based on characters independent of morphology.
