One cadmium(II) and one manganese(II) complexes derived from N-(o-nitrophen
yl)-N'-(methoxycarbonyl)thiourea (H(2)omt) and o-phenanthroline (phen) or 2
,2'-bipyridine (bpy) have been synthesized: 1, [Cd(Homt)(2)(phen)](CHCl3)(2
); 2, [Mn(ocn)(2)(bpy)(2)] (ocn = o-nitrophenylcyanamido-N). The cadmium(II
) ion in complex 1 has distorted octahedral geometry generated by the two N
atoms from one phen and the two S atoms and the two deprotonated amide N a
toms from two Homt groups. Complex 2 is formed by desulfurization and hydro
lysis of the ligand H(2)omt in alkaline media. The manganese(II) atom is si
x-coordinated with distorted octahedral geometry made up by four N atoms fr
om two bpy ligands and two N atoms from two ocn ligands. Spectroscopic and
electrochemical properties, as well as antibacterial and antifungal activit
ies have been studied.
