Abstract
By means of potenriometric pH measurements, the acidity constants of 1,4-di aminobutane and 1,5-diaminopentane have been determined in 1.0 M KNO3 at 25 .0 degrees C. Combined pH/pAg data were used at the same temperature in aqu eous 1.0 M KNO3 to study the complexation of Ag(I) with the diamines. Proto nated and non-protonated mononuclear and polynuclear complexes were detecte d. No evidence was found for the existence of hydroxo complexes. The result ing overall stability constants have been compared with previously determin ed stability constants for Ag(I)-ethylenediamine and Ag(I)-1,3-propylenedia mine complexes. Some relationships concerning the length of the CH2 backbon e have been identified.
