Single crystals of a complex made from cadmium(II) acetate and the Schiff b
ase of salicylaldehyde and 1,3-diaminopropane, and recrystallized from pyri
dine, was synthesized and its structure determined by single-crystal X-ray
diffraction methods. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group
P2(1)/n with a=15.959(4), b=26.222(3), c=25.907(6) Angstrom, beta = 101.60(
2)degrees, V = 10620(7) Angstrom(3), M = 1652.80, Z = 4, Dc = 1.034 g cm(-3
), mu = 6.34 cm(-1), and F(000) = 3360. Refinement gave R = 0.078, R-w = 0.
077 for 4990 observed reflection with I greater than or equal to 3 sigma(I)
. Each Cd(II) atom is coordinated by two nitrogen atoms from two pyridine m
olecules, two oxygen atoms and one nitrogen atom from one Schiff base and o
ne nitrogen atom from another Schiff base to form a distorted octahedron.
