Abstract
The sterically bulky t-Bu-substituted derivatives of 1,1,2,2-tetraphenyl-3, 8-dichlorobuta[b]naphthalene (5), trans-1,2-tert-butyl-1,2-diphenyl- (8) an d 1,1-di-tert-butyl-2,2-diphenyl-3,8-dichlcyclobuta[b]naphthalene (12), wer e prepared. X-ray analysis of 8 and 12 at 150 K showed that C-C bonds of 8 and 12 are 1.686 and 1.729 Angstrom, respectively. The latter bond length i s longer than that of 1.720 Angstrom in 5 and is the longest one reliably d etermined to date.
