Abstract
Ever since the pioneering work of Elliott (Elliott J P 1958 Proc. R. Sec. L ondon Series A 245 128, 562), quadrupole collectivity in deformed nuclei ha s been economically described in terms of SU3 symmetry. Microscopic SU3 sym metry is not present in the deformed intrinsic states of n nucleons in the abnormal-parity single-particle states j(a). However, such (j(a))(n) stares do possess some SU3-symmetry-like properties as shown in this work.
