Abstract
In this, the introductory installment of the Pearls of Veterinary Medicine, renowned heartworm expert, Dr. Clarke Atkins, provides the readership of t he Journal with an overview of his protocol for the diagnosis of feline hea rtworm infection. Discussion is divided into protocols for both screening a nd diagnosis with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA; both antigen an d antibody), hematology, radiology, and echocardiographic diagnostic method ology being reviewed.
