One thing George Series taught me well was the fascination of the comp
lexity underlying simple systems, for instance the hydrogen atom. Like
atomic H, the early Universe is a simple system. As is true for atomi
c H, there are also fascinating complexities folded into the simplicit
y of the Universe. In particular, small anisotropies in the relic heat
of the Big Bang provide important clues both about the formation of s
tructure in the Universe and about high energy physics.
