Abstract
We investigated the effects of amitriptyline on the consolidation processes using an inhibitory avoidance task in OF1 male and female mice. Several do ses of this tricyclic antidepressant (7.5, 15 and 30 mg/kg) were administer ed immediately after the training trial. The time taken to enter the dark c ompartment was measured in the training session and 24 h later, in the test session. The results showed that amitriptyline impaired inhibitory avoidan ce learning with two of the administered doses (7.5 and 30 mg/kg) in female s and with all doses in males. These findings indicate the amnestic effects of acutely administered amitriptyline. Med Sci Res 27:237-239 (C) 1999 Lip pincott Williams & Wilkins.
