Chiral stationary phases (CSP) based on porous silica coated with beta
-cyclodextrin polymer and methylated or acetylated derivatives have be
en prepared. Their enantiomer separation capability was tested and com
pared under reversed-phase mode elution conditions. Noticeable changes
in retention properties were noted and in many cases a reverse enanti
oselectivity was evidenced, as a consequence of a strong modification
of the energy, geometry and number of points of contact between solute
s and stationary phase sites of molecular recognition.
