Abstract
The Yangshao type pottery, made about 6000 yrs ago, was investigated by X-r ay diffraction (XRD), and confirmed to be composed of quartz, feldspar, mus covite and calcite. A black pigment on it was assumed to be (Mn, Fe)(3)O-4 from Particle Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) and XRD experiments. Firing tem perature of the pottery was assumed to be less than 600 degrees C from a he ating experiment of the fragment of the pottery. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
