The importance of university researchers from different disciplines working
together with teacher educators and practitioners in schools has previousl
y been emphasized. This paper outlines the collaborative procedures and out
comes associated with three physical activity and physical education interv
entions in schools. The three projects, supported by NHLBI funding, are lon
g-term, multidisciplinary investigations (CATCH, M-SPAN, SPARK). The benefi
ts of interdisciplinary collaboration far outweigh the perceived barriers.
