Abstract
The synthesis of two macromolecular chelates, poly(2-hydroxy-4-acryloxyacet ophenoneoxime) and poly(2-hydroxy-4-methacryloxyacetophenoneoxime), was ach ieved by the polymerization of 2-hydroxy-4-acryloxyacetophenoneoxime (HAPO) and 2-hydroxy-4-methacryloxyacetophenoneoxime (HMAPO), and the resultant p olymer chelates were characterized by spectral studies (IR and NMR), molecu lar weight determination and elemental analysis. The polymer-metal complexe s a ere synthesized by the reaction of metal acetates with polymer chelates and these complexes were characterized by electronic, IR spectral measurem ents, elemental analysis, thermal, magnetic and conductivity studies. The d ata obtained from these studies suggest a planar geometry for copper(II) ch elates while nickel(II) chelates are likely to possess a distorted planar g eometry. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
