The utilization of quartz-crystal-microbalance sensors in liquids yields ne
w requirements to the applied interface circuits. In the present article, t
he fundamentals of the measuring principle and advantages and drawbacks of
suitable interface circuits are discussed. Special requirements of oscillat
ors as interface circuits are outlined. Possible solutions to those require
ments are investigated and two recently developed oscillator circuits are p
resented. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. [S0034-6748(99)02805-1].
