P. Bonnette et al., Pleural recurrence after surgery for bronchial carcinoid tumors in two patients: diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties, REV MAL RES, 16(1), 1999, pp. 85-88
Recurrence after surgery for bronchial carcinoid tumors is very uncommon ir
t cases of typical tumors and occasionally seen in cases of atypical tumors
. We observed two cases of recurrence in an unusual location, the pleura. S
omatosiatin analog and MIBG scinigrams were useful for diagnosis. Treatment
required surgical excision of the relapsing tumor, cytoreductive hepatic s
urgery or hepatic arterial chemoembolization for liver metastases, chemothe
rapy, interferon, radionuclide therapy, and somatostatin analogs for carcin
oic syndrome.
