Abstract
The novel 4-(ortho-hydroxyphenyl)-1,2,3-selenadiazole smoothly transforms i nto 2-benzofuranselenolate through potassium carbonate catalyzed selenadiaz ole ring cleavage. The presence of alkyneselenolate is proved by the format ion of methyl(ortho-methoxy-phenylethynyl)selenide in the presence of methy l iodide. Alkylation and oxidation reactions of 2-benzofuranselenolate are described. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
