Experiments were conducted to study the effect of individual bacterial isol
ates and their combinations on the corrosion of carbon steel. Observations
were made on corrosion rates, changes in pH and the type of corrosion in ea
ch case. Results show that in the presence of strain FBI, corrosion rates w
ere higher as compared to the other strains indicating that individual stra
ins responded differently with regard to the corrosion of carbon steel. The
pH of the media decreased in all the cultures and the one associated with
maximum corrosion rate had the lowest pH. Fitting corrosion was observed in
coupons exposed to medium containing strain FBI.
