Abstract
Zinc is well known for its toxic effects, when present in excess in the env ironment and every effort has to be made to remove the same from industrial effluents before discharging into the environment. Simple neutralisation a nd sludge disposal lead to secondary pollution which is still more difficul t to be tackled. Electrolytic removal coupled with recovery and recycling o f metal values can be the only possible solution to this problem. Towards t his goal, experiments have been carried out for the treatment of rayon indu stry effluent using a bipolar disc electrolyser and the results are reporte d in this paper.
