Abstract
Diethyl trichloromethylphosphonate 1 and chlorotrimethylsilane were co nverted in a three-step sequence by BuLi into alpha-phosphorylated alp ha-silylated alpha-substituted carbanions 4. These, on reaction with e thyl formate in the presence of chlorotrimethylsilane give transient s ilylated acetals 8 which readily undergo acid hydrolysis to afford 1-f ormylalkylphosphonates 7 in good yield.
