Abstract
Taxol, a tubulin binding diterpene originally isolated from the Pacific Yew (Taxus brevifolia Nutt.), has been discovered in the African Fern Pine, Po docarpus gracilior Pilger (Podocarpaceae). This is the first report of the occurrence of this compound in plants outside the Taxaceae family. The phyl ogenetic implications of this discovery are discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Sc ience Ltd.
