Abstract
The effect of dietary taurine, 2-amino ethanesulfonic acid, on hypercholest erolemia caused by thiouracil-induced hypothyroidism was investigated in hy pothyroid rats. Serum total- and HDL-cholesterol were significantly increas ed, and the excretion of fecal bile acids was significantly decreased. Taur ine did not change the hypercholesterolemia, but significantly recovered th e excretion of bile acids.
