Iron fullerides were prepared by chemical methods and in the electric are.
The reactions were performed in toluene or benzene solution using aluminium
chloride or nitric/acetic acid as activating agents, while ferrocene was u
sed as a source of iron. Iron: carbon plasma was investigated by means of t
he emission spectroscopy in order to determine the plasma temperature, C-2,
Fe and Fe+ concentrations. The samples were evaluated by mass spectrometry
, thermal analyses, X-ray diffraction and by Mossbauer spectroscopy which r
evealed two doublers ascribed to the iron +2 and +3 ionization states, depe
nding on thermal treatment of the samples. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. A
