Abstract
The properties of ultrafine diamond prepared by detonation synthesis were c orrelated with the extraction procedure. The large spread in the physicoche mical properties of diamond powders close in particle size and structure is accounted for in terms of impurity composition. The conclusion is made tha t the ultrafine diamond extracted from the synthesis products by different procedures can be thought of as a genetic series of hypomolecular compounds identical in composition but different in surface species. The diamonds ex tracted under identical conditions constitute a homologous series defined b y synthesis conditions.
