A differential nonfocusing Cerenkov counter is described. The counter has a
remote control ring of 12 Phi(sic)Y-130 photomultipliers and is intended f
or K+/--meson detection. The counter design permits the use of solid and li
quid radiators. The counter resolution in the 0.74-0.98 velocity range is s
imilar to 0.015, providing good K+/--meson extraction against the pion and
proton background with a sufficiently high detection efficiency. The effect
of the total internal Cerenkov-radiation reflection is used in the counter
for the additional suppression of pion background.
