A procedure and setup for determining the size and concentration of hydrate
particles forming at the contact of bulk water-gas phases are described. T
he procedure is based on measuring the turbidity of the tested system for t
wo wavelengths lambda(1) = 633 nm and lambda(2) = 515 nm. The setup is inte
nded to study the initial stages of gas-hydrate formation kinetics and allo
ws for the detection of hydrate particles at their fractional concentration
in the system as small as similar to 10(-6). The setup is designed to perf
orm tests in a temperature range from -10 to 20 degrees C and for pressures
up to 7 MPa.
