The Runge-Kutta method has been used to solve three coupled differential eq
uations to determine the performance of an active triple basin solar distil
lation system. Hourly variation of various temperatures and yield have been
evaluated along with overall thermal efficiency. Optimization of various p
arameters namely collector and basin area, and water depth with respect to
daily yield has been carried out. Numerical computations have been performe
d for a typical day of Delhi climate. On the basis of numerical results, it
has been observed that optimization of the collector area reduces with num
ber of effects. Copyright (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
