Nanocrystalline FCC-(Fe0.5Cu0.5)(93)Zr-7 and BCC-(Fe0.7Cu0.3)(93)Zr-7 (at%)
solid solution, have been obtained by mechanical alloying. Both alloys are
ferromagnetic at room temperature. By heating, the alloys decompose into F
CC and BCC phases which, with further annealing, evolve into BCC-Fe, FCC-Cu
and the intermetallic Fe3Zr. This process leads to an increase of the coer
cive held originated by a decoupling of the ferromagnetic grains and to the
appearance of the high anisotropy Fe3Zr phase. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B
