Abstract
The following glass systems x(CuO . V2O5)(100 - x)[2P(2)O(5). PbO] and x .( MnO . V2O5)(100 - x)[2P(2)O(5). Na2O] with 0 less than or equal to x less t han or equal to 40 mol% were prepared and investigated by EPR spectroscopy. The obtained data suggest an octahedral-tetrahedral (Td) distorted local s ymmetry for Cu2+ and Mn2+ ions, and a square-pyramidal (C-4v) coordination for V4+ ions. The mixed exchange pairs (Cu2+-V4+, Mn4+) appear at high tran sition metal oxides content (x > 10 mol%). (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. A ll rights reserved.
