Sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets mainly consist of the hardmagnetic Nd2Fe14B compou
nd and of Nd-rich constituents. The addition of Co results in the formation
of additional, Co containing modified, intergranular phases, especially Nd
3Co. Such phases are chemical more stable and therefore increase the corros
ion resistance of the Go-containing magnets. Investigations on the corrosio
n stability in dependence on the Go-concentration reveal that about 3.5 at%
Co additions are required for an improved corrosion stability. (C) 1999 El
