Two types of UFe4Al8 carbides were identified, one isostructural to UFe4Al8
(A) and another, with a different structure related with the ThMn12-type b
ut with the a- and c- axis doubled (B). Two magnetic transitions at similar
to 143 and 133 K were observed for both compounds, the former one attribut
ed to the magnetic ordering of the Fe atoms. From Mossbauer results similar
to 30% and similar to 18% of the Fe atoms, for A and B, respectively, were
found in the paramagnetic state down to 5 K. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V
