Abstract
The paper proposes a new computational approach for predicting the dynamic response characteristic of magnetic actuators, e.g. a long-stroke linear ac tuator. This method is based on a comprehensive magnetic energy formulation . Using the magnetic co-energy as a function of position of the armature an d magnetomotive force, a system of first order differential equations can b e found which relates the electrical supply to the magnetic behavior and th e movement of the plunger.
