[(MeCp)VCl2(PEt3)(2)] (1) and [(MeCp)(2)VCl] (4) (MeCp = eta(5)-C5H4CH3)hav
e been obtained from the reaction between VCl3 and NaMeCp in THF in the pre
sence (1) and absence (4), respectively, of PEt3. The reaction of VCl3 and
NaMeCp in the presence of CNt-Bu yielded (impure) [(MeCp)VCl2(CNt-Bu)(2)] (
3) and, as a by-product, [(MeCp)(2)V(CNt-Bu)(2)][VCl4(THF)(2)] (2). The cry
stal and molecular structures of 1, 2 and 4 have been determined. (C) 1999
