S. Pal et al., Neuropsychopharmacological profile of the methanolic fraction of Bryophyllum pinnatum leaf extract, J PHARM PHA, 51(3), 1999, pp. 313-318
Neuropharmacological studies were conducted in experimental animals (rats a
nd mice) with the methanolic fraction of Bryophyllum pinnatum leaf extract.
The fraction produced alteration of behaviour pattern, caused dose-dependen
t potentiation of pentobarbitone sleeping time and had significant analgesi
c activity. Significant reduction of exploratory behaviour and loss of resi
dual curiosity were among the effects observed with the fraction. The obser
vations suggest that the methanolic fraction of Bryophyllum pinnatum posses
ses a potent CNS depressant action.
