Abstract
Traumatic ureteral injury in mares can result in uroperitoneum. Accumulatio n of urine in tissues surrounding the ureter may prohibit accurate identifi cation and subsequent repair of the defect. A temporary indwelling ureteral stent catheter may be used to restore conti nuity of the urinary tract and facilitate healing of ureteral injuries. Pro per use of stents may also preclude the need for ipsilateral nephrectomy.
